The center embrionically developed in 1999 as a working group of regional development planning coordinated by Dr. H. R. Sunsun Saefulhakim and consists of Dr. Ernan Rustiadi, Dr. M. Nur Aidi, Dr. Setia Hadi, Dr. Iskandar Lubis, Drs. Yayat Supriatna and Ir. Dyah Retno Panuju. The goal is to become a center of excellence of regional science, regional planning, regional development and regional information with main focuses on tropical archipelago, developing countries, agriculture and rural areas, which is nationally or internationally renowned.
